Controlled Direct Synthesis of C-Mono- and C-Disubstituted Derivatives of [3,3′-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2] with Organosilane Groups: Theoretical Calculations Compared with Experimental Results

The first C-mono and C-disubstituted cobaltabis(dicarbollide) derivatives containing different organosilane functions have been successfully prepared by the direct reaction of the mono- or dilithium salts of the [3,3′-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2] and [8,8′-μ-(1′′,2′′-C6H4)-3,3′-Co(1,2-C2B9H10)2] ions with the appropriate chlorosilanes under temperature control.
